There used to be a rating system many years ago which watched out for the American people.  Ed Sullivan was very much the standard. He set the bar and if he aired you on his show and liked you, you were a success. He became a moral compass for many. He strove for the highest of standards and everyone viewing his program each week was entertained by the greatest talents the world had ever seen.

Controversies were addressed on television as well but were done with great care not to insult people's intelligence or violate common decency. The long-running television western Gunsmoke, which aired on CBS from 1955 to 1975, flourished throughout those years without sex, crude humor, profanity, and taking the Lord's name in vain.  U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon (James Arness) stood up to lawlessness in defense of lawfulness.

The characters in Gunsmoke faced real social issues which were being experienced by the viewers of the day. These included the treatment of minority groups, the meaning of family, the legitimacy of violence, and the strength of religious belief. As time moved on, during the 1960s, the show became more aware of and sympathetic to ethnic minorities during the civil rights era. This helped the show to become the longest-running western in TV history and it never lowered the moral bar but instead kept the standard high.

Today, people are bombarded with profanity, slang, nudity, blaspheming the name of the Lord and the list goes on and on. Billboards and commercials with scantily clad women fill the visual arena of all who would see. This not only desensitises people to the reality that they no longer need to aspire to a higher standard, they are also encouraged to do so in the movies, television, books and yes, on the internet as well.

In the computer industry, viruses, Trojans, worm and other malware are spread more wildly through the porn industry than many other ways. The evil which attacks your computer is first instituted by your willingness to entertain yourself by these things. Websites which encourage immoral behavior are most notoriously linked in some way to malware.

In my latest linked post, "Tech companies 'must stop paedophiles uploading child sex abuse images', National Crime Agency says." This desensitising of our people to what is obviously wrong has a direct bearing on our well-being however, the trend is increasing. According to the article, "The agency received 80,000 referrals over indecent photos and videos found on the internet last year alone and forecast the vile trend to worsen as people become increasingly “desensitised” to extreme pornography."  (Link to Article)

Changing the way you think changes your perspective which changes how you act in the world. Paul’s words aren’t new. “Change your mind” is the central theme of Jesus’ first sermon (Matt. 4:17).

Jesus challenged people to change their thinking because regardless how many times you read through the Bible, if your mind doesn’t change, you will simply impose your biases and labels on the words you read. Unfortunately, the world has defined those biases and continues to do so every day.

So, while you browse the Internet, consider that Jesus wants the best for you because of His Perfect Love for you. Would He desire that you pollute your mind, your body or your spirit with things which would inevitably take you away from Him? Draw the line in your life and decide not to cross it. Withstand the enemy. Resist him with every fiber of your being and we have it on God's authority that the devil will flee. Stop letting this world dictate what you will watch, hear, read and do; and, decide to take that righteous stand in favor of what God wants for all of us.

If you choose to continue following the ways of this world, I will be servicing your computers more often and on an ever increasing basis. I am merely giving you the opportunity to do what you already know is right. Now choose.
